Step Six is Claim Your Dream

OMG! I’m FINALLY getting to the last step of the 6 Steps to Owning Your Magic. We covered:

  1. Forgive yourself

  2. Choose love and acceptance

  3. Be intentional

  4. Surround sound your life with how you want to feel

  5. Be the author of your life

  6. Claim your dream

Now it’s time for Step 6: Claim your dream! I like to say let yourself have fun with this one because when you have this mindset, your possibilities are broader, bigger, bolder and just more bodacious to think about what you're gonna claim!

How do you want to have fun?

This is a pretty simple/straight forward question but you may not already have the answer thought out so I want you to sit with this one for a little while and so will I…

…How do I want to have fun that will excite me to claim my dream for the life that I want, now that I’ve worked through the other 5 steps to owning my magic? My dream should definitely be fun because if it isn't, then why the heck would I want to make it come true, let alone claim it?! That just wouldn’t make any sense. I want to have fun in whatever my dream aspirations entail, and I do know what they are but now it’s about really having fun in claiming and living my dream.

I’ll give you a recent example that involves being on stage. I will start off by saying that I absolutely love performing and if there is a stage or dance floor involved, you best believe I’m working to get on it if I’m not already on it. Speaking, and specifically, motivational speaking, is one of my dreams in addition to being a Life Coach and I’ve claimed both. What I did not know was part of my dream would involve doing spoken word on stage.

Well, I had my first spoken word experience last Sunday and it was such an A-mazing experience and boy did I have fun! If you follow me on Instagram, you saw what I posted. If you’re not following me, why not? Please do and here is my page Kenya Carr (@life_chapters_coaching) • Instagram photos and videos. I had a blast dancing as the DJ introed me to one of my current favorite songs by (26) Mary J. Blige - On Top (feat. Fivio Foreign) [Official Lyric Video] - YouTube. The song gets me punked every time I hear it. The beats got me ready to enjoy myself/have fun while I was on stage beginning the first experience of a new dream realized of doing spoken word to include promoting my future book of poems, my existing book, Battling the Flames, and my coaching business. I felt comfortable and supported by the finger snaps I received as I spoke my words with passion and conviction simply because I believe what I speak. Did I say it was so fun?! You don’t usually associate a lot of people watching you with doing something you’ve never done before, as fun. This is how life is supposed to be. Doing things full out to see how it makes you feel. It’s up to you to take leaps of faith so that you grow in the process and make your dreams come true. Now it’s your turn. How do you want to have fun?

How do you want to play?

How do you currently play and are you intentional about it? Is it marked on your calendar? Playtime should allow you to completely disconnect from your responsibilities for a specified period of time. Whether it’s a two-week vacation or a 3-month sabbatical. Not only that but playtime should also be spent in true enjoyment of an activity you love. It should never be spent merely catching up on something. Is it a dream of yours to travel even more than you do? Do you consider this playtime because you’re not on the clock? Playtime should be designed to create harmony in your life. Think about all the things you used to do 10, 20 or even 30 years ago before you got busy.

When I’m off the clock, I go somewhere fun. One of my favorite spots is somewhere with a beach. I sunbathe and play in the water. I go places and wear different clothes, go dancing, and even turn off my cell phone so my mind knows I’ve unplugged.

Part of being devoted to creating playtime is that you also must carve out adequate time for it. Play days must be scheduled. If you work, you probably have a certain amount of vacation leave per year allotted to you. I hope you are one who plans out the time you will take off and puts it on the calendar well in advance. If not, I encourage you to start making this a habit as well as taking all of your leave every single year! Coming into 2023, I planned out almost all the vacation I am taking and already have it blocked on my calendar. I have a few days unallocated, but I will use all of those up as well. Taking vacation time is one great opportunity to unplug and who doesn’t want to do that from time to time?! Not worrying about what has to be done, what someone else is doing, or wants you do to, is freeing and allows you to play full out because you’re not distracted with something that isn’t serving your good at the time when you need to be filling your cup up.

Do you dream of just being more of you and doing more of you with your cup so full that it's overflowing into your saucer? If so, how do you claim that dream so that you make it happen and have fun living it? Whatever your dream is, claim it and then live it full out because it's later than you think, so let's go!!!

Thank you for sticking with me as it took me some time to get through all 6 Steps to Owning Your Magic but now, we're here and you know what it takes. Own your magic Kings and Queens! Own it!!!!
