Step Five is Be the Author of Your Life

I've been gone way too long! I sound like a broken record, don't I? My fault! :( I'm confident that I will do better because we should have been done with all 6 Steps by September if I was being consistent. No fear though because as I said in last week's email newsletter, my 2023 Mantra is Be Disciplined, Be Bold and Fly High! This means that I will be consistent going forward because I will be disciplined, and I expect you to hold me accountable as I hold my clients accountable in coaching.

I think I'm most excited about Step 5 of the 6 Steps to Owning Your Magic which is Be the Author of Your Life because it's centered around moving towards what makes you come alive!

What could you do now that your future self would cheer for?

As a reminder, here are the 6 Steps to Owning Your Magic:

  1. Forgive yourself

  2. Choose love and acceptance

  3. Be intentional

  4. Surround sound your life with how you want to feel

  5. Be the author of your life

  6. Claim your dream

Now that you're reminded of the 6 Steps to Owning Your Magic since its been a hot minute since we covered the last step, think about this question:

Question for Insight:

  • What could you do now that your future self would cheer for?

Who has asked you this question in your lifetime? If the answer is no one, then I'm honored to be the first :) But being asked is not enough! You have to now really think about it and answer it. So, I'm being bold in putting my call to action up front and center before I share anymore to help you answer this question and I'm expecting and answer so hear you go...

Call-to-Action: Show your giving skills by giving me your answer to this question for insight 1 of 2 ways. 1) Place your answer in the comments section of this blog, or

2) Email me your answer to kenya@lifechapterscoaching.com.

Provide your answer by Sunday, January 15. I will wait to hear from you. I will be excited, and I will respond to you!

Okay, now that the action for follow up is already on the table, let me provide some prompts to help you with your answer. So, when you think about being the author of your life, remember that you have the pen or the keyboard.

  • Author, what do you tell yourself in order to take action to experience so you can grow?

  • Author, what do you notice your mind telling you to do (what are your thoughts around trying something new or maybe even scary?)?

  • Author, do your thoughts keep you stuck in the same place?

  • Author, do your thoughts take you back to your past/history?

  • Author, do your thoughts propel you forward into your future?

Everything you do or don't do, you author, as your actions or inactions create the story of your life. How do you want the chapters in your story to read? I ask this because every time you do something, you are authoring another sentence, another paragraph, another chapter in the story/book of your life.

Bold ideas that we come up with require bold moves. However, if we are stuck in the same place, or in our past, then we can't move forward to make those bold moves into realities that our future selves would cheer for.

What is that person, place or thing you've wanted to make a bold move on/towards that you haven't yet because you've told yourself that you can't or not right now? Whatever it is, now is when you can take action so that your future self will cheer for you and thank you! It might be that you've tried in the past and couldn't follow through. It may be that you just didn't give yourself a second or a third, or a....chance but you know that if you get what you want, you will be that much happier. What is it?

For me, honestly, before the pandemic, I never thought about learning to fly. During the pandemic, I had more time and so it got me wanting to do something bold but also something that I love. So, what did I do? I signed up for a Discovery Flight on a Cessna 172 aircraft. I also researched the cost to become a student pilot. I thought I'm going to do this. I'm going to get my private pilot license (because I want to, and I can). I want to be able to fly me and two to three of my girlfriends to New York for a dinner and Broadway Show and fly them back as their Captain Kenya. This is something that I could do and have, and my future self will cheer for me. Hell, my future self is already here and cheering because every time I taxi, take off, land and taxi, I cheer I did that!

Now that's a pretty bold and extreme example but yours can be anything that results in growth for you because you have never done it or finished it before and you're ready to now, after reading this blog.

I want you to:

  1. Be curious (to step out of your comfort zone)

  2. Practice humility (you may not get it right the first time after trying and that's okay. Try again)

  3. Be brave (you can do this. Tell your critter brain to SHUT UP if it tries to talk you out of it)

Now, let's go and tell me and then show yourself so that your future self, cheers HIP HIP HOORAY, I DID THAT!
